Children's Disability Service

The Children’s Disability Service at Doncaster Council have used the Astrabound indoor play area to offer fun sessions for children with disabilities under the Aiming High for Disabled Children agenda. (www.togetherfdc.org)

The sessions have proved very successful and are very well attended.

We, the directors and management of Astrabound try very hard and are eager to provide an inclusive environment for all children. Parents from a local special school visited with Doncaster Council AHDC staff, met the management and discussed issues for children with disabilities.

We undertook building work to provide a ‘changing space’ for children and by working with the Council’s AHDC team a mobile hoist and height adjustable changing bed was installed at the play centre. We also designed and installed a sensory room for children with disabilities and the AHDC team match funded this.

Parents told us all that their children enjoyed the sessions that the Doncaster Council Aiming High for Disabled Children Team provided at Astrabound so much that they wanted more sessions to bring their children to. We organised extra sessions during term time that children could access and pay a special discount of £2 per child and carers are free!
